Broke dpkg or somethin', now what?

OK
Mmmm... I haven't ran into this one before...

I was installing apps thru terminal and accidently closed terminal while it was downloading

now, when I try to install anything I get

Code:
dpkg: `ldconfig' not found on PATH.
dpkg: `start-stop-daemon' not found on PATH.
dpkg: `update-rc.d' not found on PATH.
dpkg: 3 expected program(s) not found on PATH.
NB: root's PATH should usually contain /usr/local/sbin, /usr/sbin and /sbin.
E: Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (2)
A package failed to install. Trying to recover:
so, i messed something up?

linus72, you got it solved?
i'm not the foo-master of package-management, but just smash like a berserk on it. usually i start with <apt-get install -f>. after that what it tells me (might be <dpkg-reconfigure -a> or similar). if it complains i remove the packages it complains about and re-install them. not very elegant, but within a few hours i get it up again. ok: usually.

two things:
aptitude instead of apt-get might be of help.
once i couldn't solve it with aptitude and with apt-get, but, take that, synaptic removed the screwed packages, i re-installed them and was up again.
