ATI free drivers for ATI RS690 X1200 Series

I've upgraded to Squeeze on my job machine.
In Lenny I was using proprietary driver for the graphic board (ATI RS690 X1200 Series). But I found there's no such possibility in Squeeze because of ATI didn't release new versions.

Where can I find and how can I install free alternative driver?

Thanks in advance, Matías

Reed,

Thanks for the links. I'll take a look and do some testing...
Now I'm using radeonhd driver. I had some issues after upgrading due to conflict with proprietary driver (fglrx). Had to remove that driver and reinstall mesa related packages, cos' was causing kde crashing, because a there was no libGL available.

I followed this directions:

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...-fglrx-817050/

I'll do some tests with the information you gave me. Thanks a lot.

Regards,
Matías

Thanks!!!

Thank you very much for the info!

I did some test both with radeonhd and radeon. Finally I could use firmware-linux-nonfree, which offers a better performance with kde4. I think with other WMs open drivers goes ok.

I've been using Squeeze for a couple years (while was testing) but always with nvidia chipsets. Now I'm going to enjoy squeezy with ati too.

Regards,
Matías
