aptitude less [specified package]

Hi All,

Looked at man aptitude but nothing jumped out at me. If I want to do an aptitude upgrade with all but one of the packages its listing, how do I tell it to do that? For example, I want all of the packages listed for install by aptitude except libmikmod2. hints/help?

Many thanks,

ab

I think you would first use apt pinning to pin the package at its present state, then you would do "aptitude -s safe-upgrade" to see if the pinning worked. Then you would do a regular "aptitude safe-upgrade"... (all this assuming you wanted ultimately to do a safe-upgrade.)

EDIT: for more on pinning:
$ man apt_preferences

As above, but n.b. that this is the place where aptitude and apt-get differ importantly. apt-get does not know about aptitude's holds, so make sure to not mix them.
