apt pinning problems

Hi,

I'm trying to create my own apt repository but I'm encountering problems with prioritizing the different repositories.

I've tried using /etc/apt/preferences to pin the releases that I want but when I run apt-cache policy all the repos are the same priority (500). I have this on two different machines and one of of them it's working so it's not likely that it's a server problem, probably it's a client config issue but from what I can see the configs are the same.

I had this exact issue on the machine that is now working but it solved itself magically after a while.

This is from the machine that is working:
root@aptserver:~# apt-cache policy
Package files:
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
release a=now
300 http://192.168.1.160 common/all Packages
release o=Mine,a=common,n=common,l=My Automatic updater,c=all
origin 192.168.1.160

And this is from the machine that's making a fuss:
root@aptclient:/etc/apt# apt-cache policy
"Package"-filer:
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
release a=now
500 http://192.168.1.160 common/all Packages
origin 192.168.1.160

The preferences file are identical, created by the same script. The release line is missing from the faulty machine and I don't know how to get it there.

/etc/apt/preferences:
Package: *
Pin: release n=common
Pin-Priority: 300

Thanks.

Solved it.

The repositories must be signed for information needed for pinning to be used.
