apt could not lock the cache file

hello,

i'm new to debian with previous experience with slackware.

i recently install the latest sarge stable, everything went smooth.

while installing packages through apt i've closed wrongly the xterm window.

now i cannt install/deinstall anything.

any idea??

Are you logged in as root when you try to use apt?

In a terminal, type 'su', hit Enter, then type in your root password, then try.

yes,

i'm root.

the point is that i killed the xterm while the packages downloaded and now the apt cache is locked.

Ah, sorry about that.

I'm not sure... either wait for another answer or try the debian mailing lists.

Check your running processes. Chances are apt is still trying to running in the background.

I know I have done the same.
