adduser no password


Performing this command in newly insalled debian 11 desktop chimmon mate

sudo useradd -m -s /bin/bash theo



It creates the user l can see in auth.log
but it does not ask me for a password
Its just goes back to normal command line

Exactly what it should do; why would it prompt you to enter a password?? Your system did exactly what you asked it to do; it created a user, set the shell to /bin/bash, and created the home directory.

You need to set the users password with the "passwd" command.

useradd and adduser are different commands. adduser will prompt for a password but useradd does not. Well it used to...

I guess it depends on the distribution.
