how can I restore settings with usb boot

Hi,

I read about persistence in the DSL Wiki,
that you have to edit /opt/.filetool.lst to change which things can be restored.
But what should I edit there if I want to restore passwords, keyboard settings, firefox bookmarks,
I only want these three things to restore.
I tried with the System->Backup/Restore feature, but had no luck,
there is no good description for this.
