hd install: can I just apt-get alsa?

I really like DSL and I'd like to install it to my hard drive. However, I get no sound, and I finally tracked the problem down to alsa, or rather the lack thereof. So if I install it, can I then just "apt-get install Alsa"? Or should it be "Alsa/testing" or "Alsa/unstable"?

That may sound like a dumb question but I've had trouble with apt before on Debian-based OSes. It seems like with anything but pure Debian itself there's always a broken packages problem or something.

Thanks in advance.
