I don't know what ettercap is or does, but if it introduces a new network interface, Centos 7 may have renamed the e1000 NIC. Or ettercap messed with your ifcfg-eth* config.

Check if e1000 appears in the kernel message buffer (/var/log/dmesg).
What is the output of ip addr?
Does the e1000 interface appear in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*?

thanks for the reply.

ettercap is the software to manipulate network traffic. and i think it has changed some configuration.

/var/log/dmesg output includes entries with e1000e.

the output of ip addr shows the device name eno1
<BROADCAST,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 qdisc DOWN qlen 1000
link/ether mac id) brd ff:ff:ff:ff:ff:ff

/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth*

actually the device is eno1 (not eth) and i had two profiles profile_1 and profile_2

both seem to be correct. they contain the ip address and mask DNS and GW etc set by me earlier.
thank you
