More upgrades

Posted 07-19-2017 at 05:34 PM by zaivala

Well, let's see, there was a life upgrade. I got married in November. I gave the X130e to my wife, and last month upgraded her to a T430 like mine.

My machine is now running ferenOS as the main distro. Great configuration is the main thing, being built on top of LinuxMint 18.2 helps. Secondary distro is SolusOS -- while Solus is still struggling with things like my printer and using a 3rd-party office package, I have my best Kodi configuration there. And just for fun I trotted out geckolinux, based on OpenSuSE. I played with it a little bit but it has no major benefits over ferenOS or SolusOS so I may trysomething else there.

Wonderful issues. I got a premium scraper for my viewing pleasure. Kodi needs to have an up to date version of URL Resolver to install it, and only the SolusOS partition appeared to have one (although it no longer does, it held long enough to install real-debrid). Sadly, however, my VPN of choice only seems to run in ferenOS of the three available partitions, so I can watch anonymously, or I can watch good streams, but not both.

The wife is also Linux-friendly, although she is more familiar with Windoze and Mac, and has no difficulty using the computer as provided. Her T430 has installations of ferenOS and Ubuntu MATE.

I'm wishing I had the energy to start a business or volunteer effort in my little town to get more people using Linux so we could have a real LUG here. So far, no, because I'm in debt to the point of having to work harder than I'd like, leaving my aged body with little energy with which to evangelize.
