Is it possible to install steam on centos 7/x86_64

System info:
# cat /etc/centos-release
CentOS Linux release 7.8.2003 (Core)

# uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 3.10.0-1127.el7.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue Mar 31 23:36:51 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Hi

I have been trying to install steam on my centos 7 system by following the instructions here:
https://negativo17.org/steam/
and here:
https://blog.eduguru.in/linux-2/how-...am-on-centos-7

However when I attempt to install steam I get the follwoing dependency error:
--> Processing Dependency: libva-intel-driver(x86-32) for package: steam-1.0.0.66-3.el7.i686
--> Finished Dependency Resolution
Error: Package: steam-1.0.0.66-3.el7.i686 (epel-steam)
Requires: libva-intel-driver(x86-32)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem

This looks like there is a dependency on an x86_32 bit library , but my system is x86_64.

Is it possible to install steam on x86_64 system ?

If so do I need to go ahead and install a whole bunch of 32 bit libraries or is there a 64 bit version somewhere ?

I don't pretend to sound rude, and I also don't know if you are trying to install steam as a test or something but...

Why would you game on a Linux distribution?

If you just have 1 PC, why don't you create a dualboot system with Windows 10 and Linux? In the case you just have 1 HDD for example, use half for Windows and half for Linux.

Steam works great on Linux and there are native ports of games.

Steam is 32 bit, not 64 so you will have to read up on how to make your CentOS install "multilib". CentOS is more of a business related distro and I have never installed Steam on it but I am sure it is possible. You will have to install a ton of 32 bit libraries, no way around it.

Thank you for the replies.

Ok, so you have to have the 32 bit libraries for steam. I'll have a look at how to do this.

I was not aware there was a problem with gaming on Linux machines, but I never game so I do not know.
It was my son that mentioned it so I thought I'd look in to it to see if it is possible.
As you mentioned the other option is to get hold of a windows OS and use that.

That said, centOS is a server distro and not a media or gaming distro, I'm pretty sure you're going to have to enable additional repositories just to be able to install steam.
But don't take my word for it, put your thread title in a search engine instead...
