Got my mouse scroll wheel working. Just uncomment the following line in /etc/X11/xorg.conf:
Code:
Option: "Protocol" "Auto"
As for the network card, it's still coming up dead on some bootups, but I discovered that it probably is a firmware issue. In my BIOS POST logs, there are regular occurrences of an NIC Failure. Will have to hunt around for firmware. It was suggested to me that power management might have something to do with it, but I didn't notice any...

Fixed disappearing eth0... maybe?

Posted 03-30-2009 at 03:43 PM by shannonbay

I added the following lines to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules:

alias eth0 tg3
modprobe tg3
Will see whether that works - eth0 has stayed put through two reboots.

Not much success with the graphics adapter yet. Got it from here:

Fixed sound for my regular users (sound worked fine for root in KDE). Was a simple matter of adding user to group audio, which I did through KUser.

Have downloaded the ATI vga module, will set that up later.

I forgot to mention that I figured out how to make lilo boot straight into Slackware - just comment out 'prompt' in lilo.conf and then...

Slackware 12.2

Posted 03-30-2009 at 05:33 AM by shannonbay

I installed Slackware 12.2 today, after getting a copy from a mate at uni. The new version has resolved the problems I had with my network card disappearing.

I took the opportunity to redo my partitions:

sda1 Boot Primary Linux ReiserFS 5996.23
sda3 Primary Linux 10001.95
sda5 Logical Linux...
