Raspberry Pi Server Cluster Performance

Posted 08-15-2013 at 04:36 PM by Pyplate

I've done some testing on my cluster. 4 Pies is definitely better than one, there's a big difference in performance between a single Pi and a 4 node cluster. You can read more detail here: server cluster testing.

As you'd expect, a cluster of four Raspberry Pies isn't that powerful, but setting it up has been interesting. It can handle a surprising amount of traffic - I got 2800 visits from Reddit yesterday. The minimum page load time is over a second (as tested on my local network), so I need to work on that.

Next, I'll see about replacing the load balancing PC with a Pi running some kind of caching software like Varnish/Squid. I'm not sure which is best, so feel free to comment...
