Install Test Disk from Synaptic package Manager.
open terminal then
$ sudo photorec
You will asked to choose HD drive fromwhere files are to be recovered
While using Photorec there is an option for file types to be recorved.
For recovering photos use JPEG file option and disable all other file types.(for recovering MP3 files choose MP3 option and disable all other filetypes)
With this the size of recup directories (in Home folder) will be manageble...
