Audacity recording problem on Ubuntu 11.10, Audigy 2 ZS

When trying to record a second track, Audacity would keep stopping the recording, either instantly or after a few seconds. Very annoying, and the forum threads I found were particularly unhelpful. It turned out the problem was with overdub and pulseaudio.
The solution was to change the PLAYBACK device from 'default' to 'SB Audigy [SB0350]: p16v (hw:1,4)', as well as the recording device to Audigy as well. It initially didn't pick up the microphone, but this can be solved with alsamixer (or the easier-to-use gnome-alsamixer).
