shell script to send a mail on success or failure of task

Hi All,
I have written a shell script which takes the back up of data from Bugzilla, everyday. Now I want to upgrade this script with the option of sending a mail to me(or any respective person) in both the scenarios i.e. upon success and failure scenarios of back up with the appropriate information. Can anyone help me in this aspect?
