ok heres the fast lowdown i am a wanna be profesional gambler only horse racing and wanted to improve my structure by including a pc to improve admin/productivity.

alls well an fine i find a sprinter called loch verdi and take the 8's on offer 60 or so seconds later i had more than enough to buy a laptop which i later identified as one of the freevents the x59 stable i did not know alot about computers (oops gota go kid will be back shortly ).

the reason i started this blog was really just to record my own progress as i come to terms with linux and get it to do the jobs i want not just linux but i have strong feelings about open source .

my initial interest in computers came about because i gamble on horses but i have to sift through large form books

so each time i looked through a good days racing, it takes all night i didnt mind i enjoy it but i knew i would have to do something about it.

my choices were limited to paying the people i buy the form book from a database called raceform interactive for £500 per year its not quite right for me and too much misinfomation in there but the only viable option is to build my own, easy just go buy a computer and i will have it up and running in a couple of weeks.

i think that was 17 months ago ,i had limited experience on computers.

the first thing that bothered me was while nosey-ing about on vista that in some area's i didnt have enough access rights over the following weeks me and vista began to fight more and more , until one day i decided to see if there were any viable options ,i seemed to remember an old system called windows 3.1 and maybe something called redhat ?

over to google and i was soon reading about linux
i tryed in vain with different dvd to get a distro installed on to my philips freevents x59 but it just froze or crashed but one thing was for sure windows was going

i have learnt alot about computers since then although im still a newbie ive enjoyed every moment of this new technolgy

i do have a long way to go and although i havent got my database built yet i do have some spreadsheets that i keep inputting data into whilst i understand 1st 2nd and third normalization ,linux has opened up a whole new world to me that has sent me off on a different track to the one i was going in thankyou for that linux because somewhere within the stuff ive read up on i remember the words above all else it should remain fun

yes i finally bought myself a laptop with linux onboard
ha ha that skipped out having to do that install shit ive only just got over the nightmares of hardy heron alpha crashing hour upon hour trying to get it to work until finally a solution came to me if gates and his mates were going it was now today so i sold the laptop to cash converters and waited and waited .

when asus camee out i didnt just jump in i wanted battery life proper i started reading a couple of linux magazines although a large portion went over my head i was eager to learn more

and finally i got the right computer an asus laptop 901
i can squeeze 6hrs out of the batt and thats without any tweaking ive bought a few books on not just linux but networks, php, mysql and others

the security hacking/cracking stuff i just love and read as much as i can i know i have a long way to go before i can call myself an expert/geek dare i say cracker oops i meant hacker yes really enjoying learning this new world

have decided to have a look at taking the LPI courses as a good starting point maybe as far as i go im not sure i have a database to build and i may only want to get to a level wher in the majority of cases i dont need to google every question i do know it is worth putting in the hours to learn control of the system that i intend to put together

which will probally be a small website members only with a mysql rsults database and news that can be uploaded from any of the members and to be able to be at the racecourse see something log into the site and query the database

i dont know if i want to take it much further than that will just have to see . ps hello everyone (no ones reading it you pratt) yes i talk to myself and tend to be a bit of a loner are they attributes that go with potential geek .
