[SOLVED] pacman command question --needed

so if I use say sudo pacman -S xorg xorg-apps xorg-server xorg-drivers xorg-xkill xorg-xinit xterm mesa --needed

Doesn't the --needed mean install only if needed (As in if it is already installed don't reinstall) or am I miss understanding it?

No, you're right. From the ArchWiki:

Note: If a package in the list is already installed on the system, it will be reinstalled even if it is already up to date. This behavior can be overridden with the --needed option.

BTW, the thread title is completely wrong. This is not a bash shell command question, this is a pacman question.

Ok that's what I thought the reason I asked it is reinstalling packages some packages, I looked at the wiki and didnt see it.

You can also grep a man page

Code:

man pacman | grep -A5 -B5 -- '--needed'

Or use the / and n key to search a man page
