Nvidia.ko and gcc-4.1.2 within Arch

If any help can be given, that'd be wonderful.

I'm using the 2.6.33-ARCH kernel and using the most recent version of Nvidia's drivers. I've directly downloaded it from the arch repos but when I ran the configuration I got a 'Fatal Server error' No screens found alongside nvidia.ko for 'no such device.'

I've had this issue when I used Debian, so I know it's related to the driver being inactive. So I downloaded the driver from Nvidia's site and tried to run the .run package, but I got nvidia.ko at the end. This is due to the gcc version, I'm aware of that much.

My question is, how do I get gcc-4.1.2 on a more recent system? The PKGBUILD for it runs at first, but stalls and gives --.- Kb/s with a growing estimated time remaining. I've tried wget to the ftp serve that has the files needed but I don't get a response.

Again, any help is wonderful at this point.

i take it you have not read the Arch kiki page
http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/NVIDIA

this will install it
Code:
pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils
or use the nvidia.run

but that is a pain in the a$$ to install

Actually John, I did read it, but I keep getting the nvidia.ko error related to the compiler version check.

The gcc.gnu ftp server has a horrible time out on it so I cannot connect as it keeps kicking me off. If anyone knows of another ftp server to download the 4.1.2 version from with anonymous login, please let me know.

i just ignore the error and let it install anyway
but my error is that the nvidia.run was built with gcc4.5 and arch has 4.4

seeing as you seam to have 4.1 installed i take it you have not updated Arch
Code:
su -
pacman -Syu
for me using the arch nividia driver
the install instructions i gave above works just fine
Code:
pacman -S nvidia nvidia-utils
and so dose installing the nvidia.run from the nvidia web site
is this the nvidia driver you downloaded from the nvidia website?

No, I ran pacman -Syu almost immediately after I finished the installation.

And that pacman-S nvidia nvidia-utils works, but I can't start X. It's modified the xorg.conf to allow for the driver, but I still have the 'no screens found' error.

My apology for the double post, a new thing has happened. I got the PKGBUILD for gcc-4.1.2 and edited it for a mirrorsite, as the ftp server for gcc.gnu would time out.

It installed all packages, began building them, but then failed with an output of 'bad value -mtune=switch."
