Post Newbie archlinux install, some help please

Hi I am new to Arch linux. I am currently using Debian woody.

I would like some help in installing it.

I have arch-0.6 CD.

1.Fist I boot by typing arch

then I load modules by modprobe, in lib/modules/kernel/2.6.3/ directory

but I did find any modules for sound ( I have Creative Audigy ).

How do you think?

p.s sorry for my English, i am trying

I have installed base system successfully.
Then I edit files:
lilo - OK working

etc/modules.conf - I write
alias eth0 8139too

#
# /etc/resolv.conf
#

nameserver 192.168.112.254
nameserver 212.59.0.1
nameserver 195.182.73.221
# End of file

then /etc/rc.conf
#
MODULES=(8139too !usbserial !ide-scsi)

# Note: to use DHCP, set your interface to be "dhcp" (eth0="dhcp"
#
lo="lo 192.168.112.27" #lo="lo 127.0.0.1
eth0="eth0 192.168.112.27 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.112.255"
INTERFACES=(lo eth0)

#
gateway="default gw 192.168.112.254"
ROUTES=(!gateway

#
DAEMONS=(syslogd klogd !pcmcia network netfs crond)

then i ping 192.168.112.254 working
then I ping www.archlinux.org - network unreachable

whats the problem?

My ISP:
IP 192.168.112.27
getaway 192.168.112.254
dns 192.168.112.254 212.59.0.1 195.182.73.221

You need to use pacman to get alsa (pacman -S alsa-lib alsa-utils). You don't need alsa-driver with kernel26. Then go here - www.alsa-project.org - and see which module to load. Once that is done, use a mixer (pacman -S aumix) to adjust the volumes and it should be working.

I think this is the module for your card: snd-emu10k1

Hi colnago

I install the alsa-lib alsa-utils, and then I try:

[root@deimas emu10k1]# pwd
/lib/modules/2.6.3/kernel/sound/pci/emu10k1
[root@deimas emu10k1]# ls
snd-emu10k1-synth.ko snd-emu10k1.ko
[root@deimas emu10k1]# modprobe snd-emu10k1.ko
FATAL: Module snd_emu10k1.ko not found.

Any mind?

I am glad you got your sound going. When you modprobe, leave off the suffix 'modprobe snd-emu10k1'.
