This is driving me crazy. I've been reading the Arch wiki about getting sound to work in two different programs at the same time. I've tried blacklisting OSS, installing pulseaudio, editing /etc/asound.conf according to the directions, etc. When ever amarok has played anything, if it is still open I can't get sound from flash videos. Killing Amarok and and refreshing the video with f5 gets sound in the flash video, but I won't have anything in Amarok unless the video ends before relaunching it. Obviously the sound system is getting locked, but I just can't get it to work on it's own. It works fine in every other distro, out of the box, so I'm assuming that this is a configuration issue on my part. With Slackware I definitely don't have pulseaudio installed so it doesn't seem that it should be necessary anyway, I guess dmix is handling it there? I'm sure someone has overcome this issue. Any help is appreciated.

Well I got desperate and just renamed /etc/asound.conf and what do you know everything works. That was a lot of work, and hopefully it doesn't cause more problems than it's worth.
