[SOLVED] Arch installation - missing tools

Hello everyone.

I don't want to annoy anyone with this stupid question, but I'm really starting to loose my mind. I already asked this on other forums, but I haven't received any answer yet. So...

I'm trying to install Arch Linux on my notebook by following the beginners' guide. I easily established a internet connection, but already there I realized that a tool, "nano", is not installed, even if the wiki mentions that I should use nano for everything (I used "vi" instead).

However, when trying to prepare the storage drive, all the tools are missing:

Code:
>>>fdisk -l /dev/sda
sh: fdisk: not found
>>>sgdisk --zap-all /dev/sda
sh: sgdisk: not found
>>>cgdisk /dev/sda
sh: cgdisk: not found
After searching the net, I found this: How to find required software effectively on Arch Linux.
So I followed the guide:

Code:
>>>pacman -S fdisk
sh: pacman: not found
>>>sudo pacman -S fdisk
sh: sudo: not found
Everthing is missing. Other people in forums claimed that they don't have tools to establish an internet connect. But for me that worked. The rest doesn't.

Any ideas?

cfdisk (cFdisk not cGdisk)

if you can use vi, don't use the beginner guide. use the installation guide.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide

There are also videos if you need a more visual representation. Such as:

forget the muktware guide.
you MUST have missed a step in the beginners guide.
probably easiest to start from scratch.
just keep in mind that arch wiki guides are extremely concise - there's no excess information. if it "suggests" a link, you should most probably read it and apply what it "suggests" before continuing with the perfect step-by-step beginners installation guide.

Man - I finally managed to fix it. After going through the beginners' guide over and over again, I was sure that there was a problem with the installation medium. First I used USBwriter to write the .iso file to a USB flash drive. There must have been an issue with the program or with the USB. Then I took a DVD-RW and used the standard Windows 8 tool to burn the .iso to the disk.

When done, I inserted the DVD into my laptop and everything worked fine. All tools I needed were available. The DVD fixed it. ()

the muktware

Hi, I found "the muktware guide" very good, I used it side by side with the install guide, the muktware guide help me too.

I'm new to Arch, and am enjoying it. Using kde.

Still finding things I took for granted with my usual distribution, Mageia.

Looking forward to seeing you around the posts, Regards Glenn
