I am interested in arch linux- I am running slack at the moment, but am having a difficult time trying to implement acpi (the bios is buggy- and I can't get the processor fan to work) Does anyone use a dell inspiron 2600 laptop- could you let me know how well arch runs for you? thanks
I use a 4100.... Arch runs great. The kernel doesn't come with acpi or apm stock (acpi never works anyway). Takes a few minutes to fix and recompile. My nvidia drivers won't work right in arch. Still using vesa. Thats the only real beef I have... Did I suggest APM to you the other day? Don't know if that was you. Aught to give arch a try. Man is it quick.... Don't think I'm going back to Slack. Arch is just like Slack only really fast. They use a really screwed up naming convention for drives but you get used to it quick enough.... I had some problems getting into a GUI as well. It was a fun challenge to say the least... Everything runs great now except for the nvidia driver.... Give it a whirl. You thank yourself I think.......
