It's very useful to know which distro you are using ---- so that if there are tools available to help you, we can help you to find them and if there aren't, we can help you with the command line.
Keep at it!!

Amigo 2.0
and iafter i managed to get X started, even if the screen looks wrong, i tried using opera and aparently amigo didn't pick up my broadband (cable modem) connection.
I have run Damn Small Linux on my computer and it has no problem with my internet conneection, so i thought amigo should pick it u, but it didn't
so, i basically have 2 problems:
screen is messed up, and internet doesn't work...

What video card and resolution did you choose when you ran xf86config?
You may need to run netconfig and/or pppsetup to configure your cable modem.

Which network adapter do you have?
Run adsl-setup to configure ADSL.
Sound: load sound module in /etc/rc.d/rc.modules according to your sound card (/sbin/modprobe 'name of soundcardmodel')
run alsaconf or was it alsamixer and alsactl store
run command:
chmod 666 /dev/dsp*
chmod 666 /dev/mixer*
to let normal users access the sound card.
Hope this gives you some ideas.

thanx!
internet is working now...
when i ran alsaconf it said that no PCI card was detected, and when it probed for ISA cards it says there aren't any legacy drivers present...
also, i have kind of an old computer (i bought it on 1999) with an integrated sound card, and i have no idea wich model it is... i even have ūroblem finding drivers for windows...

You should try the above suggestion from skruf_man which uses the legacy OSS sound drivers.

I think this sound card uses the sound blaster module... Try insert the command:
'/sbin/modprobe sb'
in the file '/etc/rc.d/rc.modules' and see what the result of this command is when booting (command 'dmesg' after boot)
You have to be user root to do this.

You are using the legacy drivers not ALSA.

You can use auMix, on Slack CD1 in the /ap directory:
installpkg aumix*.tgz
Run 'aumix' adjust and save your desired volume.
I have tried this and it works great.
Good luck.

I think I'll refresh this thread.
I've also got CMI8330 and what I did (under 2.4.26 kernel) was:
- installed alsa-libs-1.0.6a-i486-1.tgz from slackware-current,
- installed alsa-oss-1.0.6a-i486-1.tgz from slackware-current,
- installed alsa-utils-1.0.6a-i486-1.tgz from slackware-current,
- installed alsa-driver-1.0.5a-i486-1.tgz from slackware-10,
- followed the CMI8330 /etc/modules.conf tutorial (the 'Setting up modprobe and kmod support' paragraph),
- created a ~/.asoundrc which looks like this:
Code:
pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmixer"
}
pcm.dsp0 {
type plug
slave.pcm "dmixer"
}
pcm.dmixer {
type dmix
ipc_key 1024
slave {
pcm "hw:0,0"
period_time 0
period_size 1024
buffer_size 8192
rate 44100
}
bindings {
0 0
1 1
}
}
ctl.mixer0 {
type hw
card 0
}
- ran alsaconf,
- added:
Code:
/sbin/modprobe snd-cmi8330
to /etc/rc.d/rc.modules.
<EDIT>I've modified this a bit since after a reboot it turned out the 1.0.6a driver is even more f**ked up... So I advise you to use the drivers from your own Slackware version. That's it, I think. </EDIT>
And now I've got full ALSA support with software mixing and OSS emulation.
There's only one drawback - the software mixing doesn't work if one program is playing through ALSA and some another tries to play through OSS (it also works like this the other way around) - you'll just get a 'device busy' warning. Apart from that, it works like a dream.
One more thing, I don't know what it's like on the 'old' 2.4.22 (I think it was 2.4.22... or maybe 2.4.25?) kernel on which Amigo 2 is based, you may encounter some problems with the driver package. If you do, try installing alsa-driver from slackware-9.1 instead of slackware-10.0.
That's it - hope this helps!
