Post Tooltalk Message Server Could Not Be Started

When I login to my AIX machine in CDE (as any user including root) I get a failsafe session that states "Tooltalk Message Server Could Not Be Started".

Further details ask to check resolv.conf, tcpip setup, etc. All are working and configured correctly.

I extended the DT_TTSESSION_TIMEOUT to 120 . No Luck

Checked the .dt/startlog which basically just shows the same error as above.

I have selected the DHCP connection which sets the default IP address allocated to the machine.

I'm new to AIX so other than the obvious steps I'm stumped. Any ideas on a solution would be appreciated.

PS: The related search results in the forum does not have an appropriate solution provided.

Best Regards,

Vathsan.

Try this..

I just encountered this today and tried everything suggested in the forums with no luck, even after a reboot. After opening a call w/IBM it's now resolved.

As root:

Code:
# lssrc -s portmap
Subsystem Group PID Status
 portmap portmap 192616 active
Portmap MUST be active for CDE to work correctly.

Code:
#ps -ef|grep dtlogin
root 290992 1 0 10:52:34 - 0:00 /usr/dt/bin/dtlogin
#kill -9 dtlogin PID
#/etc/rc.dt
Starting AIX Windows Desktop..............
#ps -ef|grep dtlogin
root 323718 1 0 10:56:05 - 0:00 /usr/dt/bin/dtlogin -daemon
You also have to make sure no rootvg file systems are maxed out on space. In our case a users /home was at 94% which can also cause this error.

Hope this helps!
