Oracle 10g takes 99% memory utilization of the Linux/AIX server , always!
Dear Friends ,
I am running Oracle 10g in AIX-5.3 server . I have another server RHEL5
which has also running Oracle 10g .
When oracle instance is started then some of memroy are used .This is natural, I know . But when I am running 'export' and 'import' script more that 11 times ,then I see the memory of the server is going to 99% utilized . After completing export/import process , then the Memory utilization remains same , it holds 99% memory . The server does not free the memory . But If I restart the database then memory goes to its initial stage or in normal position .And it is not possible to restart the database daily .
Here I mention that , I need to run export/import script daily .
Now plz tell me , why it is happened and how can I reduce my memory utilization ? Is this scenario make any problem in my server ?
2. AIX and most other OSes are designed that way - to utilize resources.
if you see 99% memory utilized but no paging is happening, memory is just cached. so no worries for that.
IF the system starts to page alot and a lot of users complain about "slowness", then you need to recheck your setup and add RAM when needed.

Thx born4linux for ur kind reply ..
First time During installation my oracle in my AIX 5.3 unix server my paging space utilization 0% of memory .
But Today record of my server usage is :
Memory (RAM) : 99.3 % (I use 4 GB RAM , my swap space = 2 x RAM)
And , Paging = 31.6% (Last few days it increase 5% more , initially it was 0%)
Here I mention that I always use NMON as memory monitoring tool and the above data are recorded from NMON today (08'May'2008)
