Nim Mksysb

what step I need to take an mksysb of my LPAR's
All LPAR's have been installed some times ago by previous sys admin. the nim server runs AIX5.2 and NIM client, are running a mix bag of AIX 5.2 and 5.1

Apart creating new NIM client mksysb resource on my server

can I NFS Mount /export/mksysb directory from LPAR_4 (NIM server) to let say LPAR_1 then run this command from LPAR_1
/usr/bin/mksysb -ie /export/mksysb/lpar_1_mksysb
#
my question is
1- is this will be a NIM mksysb resource on my NIM server and bootable and ready to use for recovery

2- my cd/dvd is on NIM server what command options (MKCD) I need to use to make bootable cd for LPAR_1

3- what step I need to take for restore of mksysb

You boot from the spot, so all you need to have is a mksysb image .. you dont need a bootable mksysb ..

The spot must be at at least the same ML level as the mksysb you are going to restore.

With a 5.3 NIM server you can define the mksysb resource on the master and give it the client to backup and it will nfs mount the filesystem and run the mksysb for you ... not sure about 5.2 NIM server tho as I havent got one

to use that mksysb to restore a client .. you need a spot / bosinst / lpp_res / mksysb .. allocate them as network resources to the client, then perform bos_inst operation on the client and then select "Source for BOS Runtime Files" --> pf4 --> mksysb ..

as long and the spot and lpp_res are at the right level the install will start ..

Hi Mark,

Do you mean lpp_source for lpp_res? I am actually going to do this activity this week. I want to know if it is necessary to unmirror the rootvg before proceeding? What are the checkpoints I need to do? I current have lpp_source and spot for TL11SP02 5.3 and the client is also using the same TL Level. I already did the mksysb of the LPAR using NIM. The reason why they want to do this is to test the backup and restore of mksysb using NIM. I need to backup and restore 2 LPARs that is running HACMP. I assume I need to bring down everything including the HA.
