AIX hangs forever on boot waiting for NIS, can I interrupt it?

Hi,

I have just discovered that I can interrupt HP-UX boot's process and get a login prompt by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+|.

When AIX boots, it will hang forever if it cannot find a NIS server to answer it, and this can be for any number of network-related problems. Is there a keystroke that will do the same thing and get me to a login prompt so I can fix the problem without power cycling and booting into single user mode?

Do u want an NIS?

If u don't want your machine in NIS, please remove NIS client configuration from your node for ever.

If u want it to be in NIS domain, make sure that NIS server is UP always. I think this is the best solution.

Um, that's not feasible and doesn't solve the problem.

nis interupt on aix

add the following to /etc/environment
YPBIND_MAXWAIT=300

When nis is not availeble after 5 minutes the system will start and will use local access.

The NIS Hang is one of the very few things I never liked about AIX.

Excellent operating system, as long as your company has licensed IBM Support !!! Wouldn't touch it otherwise...
