I apologize as I figure this may be a common issue but I have not been able to find a solution as of yet.. so I'm coming here.

Currently I have a Lenovo y700-15ISK notebook running Windows10 (without secure boot) and I installed FreeBSD using the following guide:

It implements rEFInd to put in the .efi entries, and I have verified that all three (Windows_10.efi, FreeBSD.efi, and the refind binary as the .efi) exist in the needed partition.

I followed the guide to a letter with the solitary exclusion of the swap as I generally don't run one with 16GB of memory.

Sadly, when booting into the UEFI menu, it still only lists the Windows boot manager, and no boot screen to reveal FreeBSD as an option ever appears.

Keep in mind:

1. I am not interested in the post-install madness of setting up games and Linux compatibility.

2. Graphics may not be switchable with Optimus yet, I haven't looked because frankly as long as I can see my screen I don't care.

I need a stable build environment for work, and the fact that games sit on my Windows partition is a distraction I don't need.

Any help in solving this would be greatly appreciated! I want to get it booting, connect wifi, and start installing my development base ASAP.

I found a resolution to this:

Download EasyUEFI (Trial) from:

https://www.easyuefi.com/index-us.html

The trial version is enough to put things in the right order.

The installation listed in my original post is valid, but places the .efi entries in EFI/Boot when Microsoft's manager is in EFI/Microsoft.

Using the EasyUEFI program you can go in and select the refind loader (bootx64.efi if following Kev009's tutorial) and move it up to the first place. It will also allow the option to make it first on a single boot to test, otherwise it will revert to the MS loader on next boot.

Hope this alleviates any issues people run into.
