systat is sysstat?

Hi all

I recently run few searches on google about the systat (BSD) service. It seems to me that many posters are confusing systat (BSD) and sysstat (SAR).

According what I've found systat is a BSD console application for displaying system statistics in fullscreen mode using ncurses/curses.

However sysstat / system statistics - is a collection of performance monitoring tools for Linux.

Is this just a misunderstanding of many Linux users when they are referring many times to sysstat as systat. It seems to me those are 2 completely different tools.

OpenBSD and NetBSD man pages seem to confirm.

systat is indeed a system monitor displayed in a console. I occasionally use it.

Correction

After several years I found my own post when I was investigating the same topic again. Since this is one of the top results if you search in duckduckgo, I will correct myself here.
This topic actually popped up as a security topic regarding insecure protocol systat. This is not really the BSD utility reffered earlier in my post. It's a xinetd service running on a TCP port 11. Via this service you can get sensitive system info by:

Code:
telnet <host-ip> systat
Therefore it is recomended to disable the service in inetd (xinetd).

I hope this helps to someone!
