Quick question regarding installing packages in freebsd

I've read that you can use the freebsd ports to install programs but I just can't get them to work. Can someone provide me with a sample of how to install something in Freebsd?

cd /usr/ports/www/firefox && make install clean

Seems pretty simple to me what problems are you having. An error message or two would help or at least a description of your problem.
