how can i open ports for samba?

nmap tells me that these ports are closed. although this client can talk to other no one can reach its shares. How do i open these ports in freebsd.

UDP/137 - used by nmbd
UDP/138 - used by nmbd
TCP/139 - used by smbd
TCP/445 - used by smbd

i had to use ip addresses rather than hostnames in hosts allow of smb.conf.
