The output of kldstat was in post #3.

I didn't get the chance to poke at this problem during the latter part of this week, but, when I get a change, I'm going to keep poking.

The sound hardware offered by VBox is ICH, so I'd say try kldload snd_hda snd_ich.

I now have sound in my FreeBSD VM.

I can't claim credit for it. I think it may be due to a recent round of updates.
