Partitions in FreeBSD

I want to install FreeBSD on my secondary HD (20 GB)---here's the approximate layout of the disk:

First primary-4th Primary = FAT (approximately 7 GB)
Remainder of disk = ext3 (Slack starts at hda5)

What I want to to is wipe out the FAT partition and install BSD there.

When I get to fdisk during the installation, how would I go about specifying that partition as the target for BSD?

For instance, would I delete (D) then create (C)? Or would change type (T)?

Could someone clarify this for me?

Thanks.

I've just started playing around with Freebsd myself but I believe you should Delete then Create the partition.

With BSDs, you just make one big partition and it will make the swap and any other partitions it needs from within the one big partition.

More experience users can give better insight into this.

Here's a link to my disk layouts-->

Partition Table

As you can see, I have ~12G of "unallocated space" on my first drive, however, my Red Had boots from /dev/hda3, and I don't want to screw up how it boots (I don't use bootloader, I use a bootdisk--no Lilo or Grub installed here).

On the secondary drive, the first partition is the Windows I want to get rid of.

All advice would be appreciated.

I'm to new wit FBSD and not quite sure what to tell you but I'm assuming you want to install FBSD on the second drive where the windows partition is?

When you start the installation process wit Free, does it show that drive/partition? If so, then why not just delete it and then create a new partition for Free?

Slack- have I seen you with mounting problems on another board?
Should I assume this is resolved?

No, that wasn't me--on another board, that is.

I think I know how to go about it now (creating the space)...thanks.
