mysql not started


i have install mysql-server in my FreeBSD. then i want to chown -R mysql /var/db/mysql. Thereis syntax that always used in Linux. but i try in freebsd that some error. How can i change the owner the directory under freebsd. Thaks for all budy

I believe that chown and chgrp are standard *nix commands and should work in bsd as well. Do you have a mysql system user and system group? Did you try the command as root? Otherwise, post the exact error message.

Why do you need to chown mysql databases and to what user do you want to take ownership. What is the error that you get when you try to chown the mysql databases? FreeBSD automatically sets the mysql ownership to the mysql system account just like in Linux.
