is there any way of getting my wheel mouse to work under X in FreeBSD (it says "the protocol IM/PS2 is not supported on this platform"). if i use the generic PS2 driver i can get the wheel to work as a third button, but i can't get its up and down movements recognized.

thanks,
alex

try IMPS/2 if you didn't type it incorrectly

up and down are buttons 4 and 5

Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

You can even get a very well-tailored answer by googling

XFree86 mouse wheel

and it'll take you to the faq that tells you what to do.

Put this in /etc/rc.conf:

moused_enable="YES"
moused_type="auto"
moused_port="/dev/psm0"

And this in XF86Config:

Section "InputDevice"
Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "auto"
Option "Device" "/dev/sysmouse"
Option "Buttons" "6"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7"
EndSection
