FreeBSD Network Connection Problem

Hello All,

I have a FreeBSD Virtual Machine (using VMWare Player) and I can't seem to be able to get access to the network/Internet at all.
I have tried both bot "Bridged" and "NAT" connections (from the VM's Settings), but neither seem to work.

While I was trying the "Bridged" Connection type, the ONLY thing I was able to do was I could ping my Host computer but nothing else. Not a router at 192.168.1.1, or anything else other then the host computer.

Then, while trying the "NAT" connection type, I can't ping anything at all, not even the host...
I've been messing around with this for 2 days now and I've tried Googling the heck outa this, but no such luck finding a resolution.

I disabled the firewall thinking that may help, but it did not.
FYI: Here are some errors that are just coming up in the terminal, and I can see them in "/ var / log / messages"
Code:
inetd[1074]: /usr/libexec/bootpd[5047]: exited, status 1
bootpd[55552]: Can not get my IP address
inetd[1074]: bootps/udp server failing (looping) . service terminated
It shows these same errors over and over and over.....

ifconfig Output: this is while in "Bridged" mode for the Network Adapter
Code:
em0: flags=8843<UP,BROADCAST,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
	options=9b<RXCSUM,TXCSUM,VLAN_MTU,VLAN_HWTAGGING,VLAN_HWCSUM>
	ether 00:0c:29:89:f8:ee
	inet 192.168.5.124 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.5.255
	media: Ethernet autoselect (1000baseT <full-duplex>)
	status: active
plip0: flags=8810<POINTOPOINT,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 1500
ipfw0: flags=8801<UP,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 65536
lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> metric 0 mtu 16384
	options=3<RXCSUM,TXCSUM>
	inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4
	inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128
	inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000
	nd6 options=3<PERFORMNUD,ACCEPT_RTADV>

If anyone has any suggestions, PLEASE feel free...!

Thanks in Advance,
Matt

Kind of a lot going on here. Not sure which way to start.

inet 192.168.5.124 says this should be the host's ip address in bridged or at least one of the host's addresses.

That differs from your 192.168.1.1 router unless you fix the subnet.

Freebsd is a bit odd sometimes. Might have to try this again but start with nat. Nat would yield a ip range from the virtual switch/router that the vm has for nat.

Guess you could see a pre-made vm that should work out of the box. http://www.vmware.com/appliances/dir...?k=freebsd&c=0

Hey jefro, thanks for the reply...

I'm not at my laptop at the moment (might have to try tomorrow), but when I am I will definitely give your suggestions a try.

Thanks Again,
Matt
