YEAY, I loved DesktopBSD back when it was actively developed and updated. I've never used a BSD desktop environment since that I liked as well, and not many Linux desktop either.
Here's hoping that all goes well with your/this project.
As I recall, DesktopBSD came pre-installed with multiple windows managers and that you could select whichever you wanted from the login screen. I loved that feature and hope that it will be implemented in the new iterations of DesktopBSD.
The post did not ask a question or provide useful information beyond a URL, but displayed a recurring (and annoying) text speak title at top of the list... so I took it off zero reply... think of it as gentle feedback.
I have use the BSDees for many years & still do & DeskTopBSD is still the one BSD I have had the most success with,it was a shame to see it close,I think Rofreesbie was another great BSD that closed.
