Unhappy Can I install freeBSD on this machine?

Pentium IV 2.8G
ASUS P4C800 with 3C940 (LAN)
WD SATA 120G

I wanna install freeBSD on my machine but not sure if it is compatible with my pc.
the main concern here is
does freeBSD support
SATA drive and
on-board l3Com 3C940 Gigabit LAN

Also wondering the controller is promise or ICH?

thanks very much for your help

The hardware compatibility page for disk controllers on 5.2: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/5.2R...386.html#AEN65

4.9 compatibility: http://www.freebsd.org/releases/4.9R...386.html#AEN33

Results from the search box on the freebsd site for sata support: http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/search.cg...=25&source=www

The answer looks like "perhaps"

Happy reading

thanks, vectordrake

actually I've checked the official doc b4 i come here;
I can just find promise SATA controller while mine seems ICH5 one.

but I successfully installed Mandrake Linux on it with only a little problem.
and i also didn't find any support for my SATA disk. but i did support!

just wanna see if there is any experienced ppl installed it successfully.

Since your system components are relatively recent, you might want to try 5.x, it has better support for newer hardware
