acpi and power managenent

Freebsd 5.2.1

I got it installed everything works really well except powering off.

I shut down and the system halts and says press any key to reboot.
This happens with the power off command and I can't shut the machine down even with the button on the front.Forgive my lack of technical jargon there.

I must shut off the power supply switch.

Is this because I have 'ACPI AWARE OS" ENABLED in the BIOS as well as
"POWER MANAGEMENT" ON in the BIOS?

Should I turn off POWER MANAGEMENT in the BIOS and leave ACPI AWARE enabled?

Thanks in advance!!

make sure you have an acpi-enabled kernel, and that the acpi daemon is running...

i have an acpi board also, but i don't use the acpi on it...

i set the bios to "acpi aware os = no" and i use a regular apm kernel with no problem...

of course i did have to "modprobe apm" in my /etc/rc.d/rc.modules (slackware) to load the module and the daemon...

on linux, the usual cause for no-shutoff issues with acpi kernels is that the acpi daemon isn't running... maybe bsd has an acpi daemon or something also??

bsd 5.2.1 has acpi enabled by default but maybe I will try acpi off and go with just apm.

i just saw the announcement for freebsd 5.3 beta 3:

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/f...er/036565.html

the changelog shows "Misc. acpi fixes", might be something related to your issue...

also, here's the freebsd acpi archive, in case you wanna look through it:
