next to the great things i've been hearing concerning Mandrake Linux, i think Slackware is the biggest curiosity for me. i actually got the distro for Slackware 9.1 but have not had the time to install it. if VectorLinux can make that whole process a lot smoother for me, i'll certainly try it.
where's the best place to get the iso's or is it purchase only ?
thanks

ps.
yes, i tried vectorlinux.com but would rather have an ftp site to d/l from
Gee whiz! I am impressed with the speed difference as well. Will continue to "play" with it for a while, see if I really like it. My hats off to the chef!
Installed VL4 a few days ago. Install went by in the blink of an eye. The configs actually TELL you what changing a setting will do. I'm still sorting out a few hardware issues. I think I'm just too used to redhats and mandrakes, so I've been spoon fed when it comes to configuring hardware. This is the first linux, tho, where I've actually been able to stand sitting and watching it boot. It's over before you know it started.

that's pretty encouraging, i just got thru reinstalling windows xp, mandrake and slackware on a 80 gig drive. not a real joy but now that i got it done, it's really nice. been thinking of adding a 3rd and while it might be too early to try a "linux from scratch" attempt, I wouldn't mind giving VL a go at it.
Heh...
Vector may have started out as a "one-man-job" , It's grown into a community-effort by now.
And quite a good one too ; What I always felt , Linux was meant to be.
Once aquainted with the "default" progs that come with it , one can start scratching the stuff not liked and replace it with the progs you want , all from the repository(Check the SOHO-testing rep. ; Lots of neat stuff there), all with the packagemanager "Vecpkg"(OK , that's just a clever overhaul of "installpkg"....)
It's my sole OS at the moment.
(And I don't see any change in that any time soon... )
