ok so ive been hearing an awful lot about how cool ubuntu looks with xgl and compiz themes. i wanted to try it out too and so i headed over to ubuntuforums for some info on how to install and configure it.
but everyone seems to be writing only about how to get it configured on nvidia and ati cards. what about the rest of us ? id there xgl support for non nvidia and non ati cards or do i just have to stick with metacity ?
To use xgl/compiz (which I don't with intel 8245 intergraded chip) requires a a decent amount of video RAM, and whilst you can set the amount of RAM the chip uses, the graphics effects are going to be slow and not enjoyable. If you really want compiz and/or xgl then you'll want to spring for a graphics card.
