X server??

Hello,
I am running Ubuntu 7.04.
I was wondering is there a way to exit x server on ubuntu. I need to exit the server to install a driver.

I am trying to get into text only mode to run sh to run a .run file

At Boot
When you boot the system, at the selection type the name of the selection and add (init s) i think and it will take you to the console.

Hmm, you should be able to get to the console with Ctl+Alt+F1 (or F2, F3 ...).

Once logged in you should be able to shutdown the X login by:

# /etc/init.d/gdm stop
