Windows keep developing boxes of foreign display material

Mostly on the background picture, but on the firefox windows, as well. I just installed this and it may have started occurring right after I changed the background picture. Boxes, about 1.5 inches in diameter, filled with diamonds, or hearts, etc., typical background repeating designs. Any ideas? Installation seemed to go pretty well.

what are you running?

is it 6, or 7? what is your system? have you a graphics card that you havent built in the driver for? are you on a proxy? this is a very limited amount of info. you may get an equally limited response, since no one knows if you are using the live-cd, or on a windows slug-machine, or what.

Version is 7.04. Not on a proxy. This graphics driver could be an issue. It is kind of an old monitor, Compaq Qvision. As usual, I have few ideas on what information is required to make a good diagnosis. I just trashed Suse on my hard drive and tried out a new distro.
