Upgrade to 8.10, ath[5|9]k not working, cannot reinstall MadWifi

So I've upgraded Ubuntu to 8.10 thinking I would get better results from my Wifi card.

Unfortunately Ubuntu didnt' automagically find my Wifi card.

Now I'm stuck in a position with no wireless because I can't even reinstall the madwifi drivers:

Code:
Installing MadWifi...OK
Loading kernel module...OK
Adding ath_pci to /etc/modules...OK
It seems that the driver did not detect compatible hardware.
Please try to connect to an AP and post the output of
sudo ./madwifi.sh --info to the forum.

If anyone can offer assistance in this matter it would be greatly appreciated. The forums at ubuntuforums.org are all lit up with 8.10 problems.

Hi nathacof;

Any idea how to do swap this out on boot-up? I am unable to boot because the kernel I have (clean-installed 8.10) will not get past initializing ath_pci.

have tried: noapic
nosmp

but I don't know how to remove a problematic kernel module on boot-up...

I'm running 2.6.27-7 on an AMD athlon 64.

Any comments on kernel boot-up options would be appreciated.
