Smile Updates can't load in Dapper Drake connection refused

I'm running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS Dapper Drake and I have the little update icon showing up in the upper right hand corner of my screen. I used to be able to just click the icon and the updates would download normally. Now, I try the same thing and I get a message that says:

W: Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/...tu7.1_i386.deb
Could not connect to ........connection refused
The only thing we've done lately is to setup the wireless on our Linksys router(WRT54G)so I could move the other computer. I think I have a port disabled but I don't know where to go in the router's settings to open it back up. The computer with the Ubuntu 6.06LTS is hard wired to the router and works on the internet fine still. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Gary

If you have a Hard Wired PC and it is working then it should be the same rules to all traffic. So if 1 works the other should. You may want to compare your apt.list files. Make sure they are going after the same repositories.

The computer I am having trouble with is the one that is hard wired to the Linksys router. The router is a wrt54g wireless model with a 4 port switch. I had my son get the wireless part of the router working only because I wanted to move the Apple PC from one bedroom to another. Back to the troubled PC. Ever since my son got the wireless working on the router, I can't download my Ubuntu updates. Maybe I need to open up a port because the error message I get lists a port number when it says connection refused. Where do I go in the router setup to change this? Any ideas are welcome and appreciated. Gary

Gary,

You will need to do this from a Hardwired PC, unless you have wireless management on.

you need to go to the Linksys admin page, this is your gateway address for your router, generally 192.168.1.1

you need to login

you need to go to a section called port forwarding

you need to type in the port TCP and UDP, and then tell it the IP address of the machine it is openeing this to, in linux you type sudo ifconfig

This should help you out.
