Ubuntu Installation Probs

I cannot use the either Ubuntu install or live because I get the following message in the middle of my monitor "out of range frequency".

Does anybody know what this means and/or how to fix it. A step by step would be helpful as I am extremely newbie when it comes to linux.

Any help greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance

It means that the video resolutions are set to high therefore causing the out of range signal error.

Try choosing a different resolution to install with.

Usually there is an option at the beginning of the install or when the liveCD first boots up like

screen=1024x768

also you can try

ctrl + alt + - (minus sign)

You may be able to find more help here.
