Avi video problems in Ubuntu


I am having this problem whenever I play any video file format. It also manifests in every player.

This is what it looks like.

I have an nvidia graphics card. Video worked just fine previously. I don't touch anything on my distro except update all of the programs. Was there some sort of update that I used that screwed things up. I first noticed the problem a week ago.
