Ubuntu 11.04 Install Issues

I just installed Ubuntu 11.04 on a Dell D830 Laptop. Everything is working fine, except for the monitor attached to the docking station. It isn't detected once the login screen is displayed. If I try hitting FN-F7, screen just flashes and goes back to the laptop screen.

Any thoughts?

Can it be detected after login?

The projector used at my LUG meetings cannot be detected by any Linux until after login. It seems to be something to do with the particular projector, not with the computer OS.
