Talking Ubantu LTS on Upgrade displays "Square box" for each character

Hi Friends

Recently after Upgrading my Ubantu LTS online, I am getting this problem! "All the characters displayed are in the form of Square boxes", I tried to boot to previous versions of Ubantu already displayed on the startup menu, but result is same - displays square box for each character!!! Due to this I am unable to log in.

Kernel ver is "Ubantu, kernel 2.6.15-52-386 " and H/w details- Dell Inspiron 6400, 1GB RAM, 120 GB HDD.

Any help

Pramod
